Makar Sankranti or Pongal and Lohri     Pongal is one of the most popular harvest festivals of Tamil Nadu. Pongal occurs in mid January each year and marks the beginning of Uttarayana (sun's journey northwards). The Pongal festival lasts for four days. Celebrations include a drawing of Kolam, swinging & the cooking of delicious Pongal.     This day coincides with Makara Sankranti. குலதெய்வம் என்பது உங்களுக்கு பிடித்தாலும், பிடிக்காவிட்டாலும் அதை வணங்க நீங்கள் சென்றே ஆக வேண்டும்.  குலதெய்வம் என்பது தெய்வங்களுக்கெல்லாம் தெய்வமாக இருந்து நம்மை முதன்மைப்படுத்தி, முக்கியத்துவம் கொடுத்து, நம்முடைய நலன்களில் அக்கறை செலுத்தக்கூடியது.  தேவைகளை உணர்ந்து நமக்கு உடனடியாக தரக் கூடியதுதான் குலதெய்வம். அதனால், குலதெய்வ வழிபாடு என்பது முக்கியம். குலதெய்வ வழிபாட்டால் குழந்தை பாக்கியம் உட்பட எல்லாம் நமக்கு கிடைக்கும்.  ஒவ்வொரு குடும்பத்தினரும் அவர்களது குலதெய்வத்தை பரம்பரை பரம்பரையாக வணங்கி வருகின்றனர். அந்தக் குடும்பத்தினருக்கு அந்த தெய்வம் மிகப் பரிச்சயமானதாக இருக்கும். கடந்த காலங்களில் பங்காளிகளுக்குள் ஏற்படும் தகராறுகளை தீர்த்து வைக்கும் இடமாக குலதெய்வக் கோயில்கள் விளங்கின. ஒரு குறிப்பிட்ட சமூகத்தினருக்காக உருவாக்கப்பட்ட குலதெய்வக் கோயில், அவர்களின் சந்ததிகளுக்கு பரம்பரை பரம்பரையாக முழுமுதற் கடவுளாக விளங்குகிறது.  அதனால்தான் அந்த சமூகத்தில் எந்த சுபகாரியம் நடந்தாலும் முதலில் குலதெய்வத்திற்கு முன்னுரிமை அளிக்கப்படுகிறது. உதாரணமாக திருமணம் என்று எடுத்துக் கொண்டாலும்
